New York Twist Drill offers many Surface Treatments that provide higher surface hardness to your tools, in turn which helps to resist wear, and makes your tools more resistant to excessive heat build up between the work piece and the tool.
Nitride: Produces a very hard, shallow surface on high-speed steel tools. Standard surface treatment for Stainless Steel, Carbon Steels, Nickel Alloys, and Titanium.
Steam Oxide: Acts as a solid lubricant and also retains liquid lubricant at cutting
edges. Prevents chip welding, reduces friction, and acts as thermal insulator
between the tool and work piece. Recommended for abrasive materials such as Cast Iron, and Aluminum Die Castings.
Nitride and Steam Oxide: This combination of both surface treatments affords the characteristics of both as described above.
Chrome Plate: An effective treatment when machining non-ferrous metals and some soft steels this includes Brass, Bronze, and Aluminum Die Cast.
Chrome Plate Over Nitride: Affords the production characteristics of both treatments.
Titanium Nitride (TiN): Provides increased surface hardness and abrasion resistance. Works well on a variety of materials including Stainless Steels, and Carbon Steels.
Chromium Nitride (CrN): Most effective in metal forming and machining non-ferrous alloys. Excellent adhesion to tool surface resulting in greater wear resistance. CrN is a good
choice when machining Nickel Alloys, Titanium, and Aluminum.
Titanium Carbo Nitride (TiCN): For machining highly abrasive and/or gummy materials such as Cast Iron, Nickel Alloys, and Carbon Steels.
Titanium Aluminum Nitride: TiALN has excellent oxidation resistance and is
designed for use in high heat applications for high speed, semi-dry or dry
machining operations. Effective machining Cast-Iron, Stainless Steel, Nickel
based High Temp. Alloys, and Titanium Alloys.
